The Real You – Created In the Image of God

 Scripture: Luke 15:11-24; Romans 8:14-19; Philippians 2:15

The visiting minister, Pastor Norman Martin, remarked that we do not a Message of our own. We have already received a Message, which is the Spoken Word, which is the Revealed Word. We have to preach from that Revealed Word which is our absolute. The Messenger of Malachi 4 does not need to be checked against another yardstick, as he is the standard. Any other minister preaching from the Revealed Word has to be checked against that standard of the Voice of God for the age. We need to know that Malachi 4 was specifically designed by God as a prophet. God did not allow him to drink, smoke or defile his body in any way. Yet most of us have drank, smoked and defiled ourselves and God did not come to us to prevent us from committing those acts. We therefore have no ground to stand against the Prophet of Malachi 4, who was pictured with the Pillar of Fire on several occasions. We cannot compare with him. He was the first-fruit that ripened in the field. That is why he was able to tell us of where we came from, of predestination, of the time before the foundation of the world and other mystery truths. We just need to accept the Prophet and then we will get the Prophet’s reward, which is the revelation of the Word. Remember when the Prophet was fretting over what Oral Roberts and other ministers have achieved in material things? God told him that He, Almighty God Himself, was the Prophet’s satisfying portion. We do not need to be hard on ourselves. The issue of the New Birth is not a result of our prayers and fastings, good though these things may be. The gift of the Holy Ghost comes by election. God has already predestinated. He will not lose us today even if we backslide. If we backslide, we need to fix up and go ahead with the journey, and God will do the rest. Just like the prodigal son, he always was a son, even when he was in a backslidden state. There is power therefore in realising our position. There is power in knowing who we are. The ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ demonstrated that power which comes from knowing one’s position. Christ knew He came from God and was going back to God. He knew that He was not sinfully born. He was like Adam, a direct creation from God. Adam did not have to grow, like we do here on earth today, into that stature of being adopted. Rather, he was manifested in an already adopted form here on earth. There is no need for fear. That kind of fear which men induce in others has no place in the life of the believer. The Message of the Hour came to take away that fear from us. The Message came to put us back into fellowship with God. Therefore as ministers, we must be careful not to establish ourselves in the hearts of the believers. Rather, we need to ensure that Christ is really established in the believers’ hearts, in that inner man, in the soul. Let us be happy knowing that the one-man ministry of Luke 17:30 is over, and that God Himself has come down to be expressed in a many-membered body. It is God in us, walking and going about in Ennerdale. It is God in us being manifested in Eldorado Park. That is how God is working. Once again, the world is hearing from God directly through the instrumentality of human beings who are expressing God today. That is why we need to show the love of God. We need to display the attributes of God. That character of God, which allowed Him to love when it was difficult to love. That perfection in the Lord Jesus Christ which enabled Him to forgive even when it was painful to do so.  Jesus was simply displaying the fact that He comes from another world where there is no hatred and grudges and pain. That is why there is no record of Him ever attending a funeral. Although He did come across funeral processions, yet when He joined them He immediately changed the funeral into an event of praise in the resurrecting power of God. Christ was showing that He comes from a land that is full of life. God is wonderful in that He designed the Fall in order to express His attributes. He beats the devil even before the devil gets started.  God caused such a situation of the Fall and turns around and offers a solution. For us to understand who we are, we need to go back to the book of Genesis. Genesis is the seed chapter. For us to see what Adam lost, we need to see him before the loss occurred. Christ came to show what Adam had before the fall. That is why Christ turned water to wine, that is why He spoke to the wind and waves and they obeyed Him. In our day we have also seen another son of man speak to the storm and the storm obeyed. He again spoke squirrels into existence and they came into being. He was able to give the little fish its like and the little fish resurrected from the dead. God is a trouble maker. He will stir a hornet’s nest for us with our backs turned to the wall and watch how we react. But He is always there watching us. In fact, He has already placed something in us to assist us in rising up to difficult situations in life. And all who are God’s children will be tried. But the trials are only temporary. In all cases, God will deliver us out of all of them. We just need to cry out to Him and He hears our pray. Without the Message, there is no rapture. Although the Prophet is off the scene by reason of death, yet the scripture speaks of the days of the voice. It is not the days of the fleshly body, but the days of the voice. God knew that the messenger would be off the scene and accordingly wrote of the days when the voice would be played after his death. Therefore we are happy the Voice is still alive. God is still with us. Let us love one another. Let us respect one another. Let us respect our Pastors. Let us respect our deacons. Let us respect our elders. Remember Peter was told that when he is converted, he has to strengthen the other brethren. Before he was converted, Peter was always in trouble and causing trouble. God deals with us at different levels and at different times. Some in our midst are just starting, and we need to be patient with others as they grow in turn. We do not need to be disturbed at what an immature Christian brother or sister says. We just need to be patient in long suffering, just believing that God will see our brethren through in His own time. There is nothing good we can do on our own. The minister gave the example of how God has kept him since his wife passed away some 10 years ago. Looking at God’s hand, the minister remarked that someone may say Pastor Martin is a stronger Christian when actually it is merely the grace of God keeping him. On his own self, he is not able to overcome. But the resident Christ indwelling his mortal body is the one who is able to overcome. Therefore such testimonies should not be used to run down a brother who fails to live right in the same situation. No. God is dealing with individuals at different levels. God is keeping the minister in the ministry for the sake of His glory and His glory alone. Let us not think of ourselves as if we are a Mr or Mrs somebody. The Prophet says that the reason we get disappointed a lot of times is because we think we are somebody when in actual fact we are just nobodies. If we are humble, God uses us more. And the humbler we keep, the more He would use us. We do not have a mission of determining who makes it to heaven and who does not. We should not be like Pharisees consigning other people to hell in vain self-righteousness
